Ghosts of Tabor is easily one of the most popular virtual reality games on the market, and arguably the most popular FPS game in VR. If you're a fan or are curious about picking up this game, it would be wise to get yourself geared up with a VR gun stock. Today we'll discuss what Ghosts of Tabor is, how the game is played, and what type of VR gunstock would be perfect for this game.
What is Ghosts of Tabor
Ghosts of Tabor is an immersive multiplayer VR game that blends survival and military shooter elements, set in a post-apocalyptic conflict zone. Drawing inspiration from popular titles like DAYZ, Escape From Tarkov, and ARMA, players are tasked with scavenging for resources, completing missions, and staying alive in a hostile environment. The game is developed by Combat Waffle Studios, Inc., a veteran-owned company located in Port Charlotte, Florida.
What is Ghosts of Tabor Gameplay Like?
There are a lot of complexities to this game, but to put it in simple terms we can boil it down to four core features:
- Survival
- Exploration
- Looting
- Upgrading
Survival
Ghosts of Tabor takes immersion and realism very seriously, meaning you'll need to do what any normal human would. Water is essential to life, and GoT has a thirst meter showing when your character is becoming hydrated.
There's food like Chocolate bars, fish fillets, cans of peaches and much more that help satiate your hunger to fill up your hunger meter, and finally a health meter.
Exploration
There are currently a handful of unique maps to explore in Ghosts of Tabor including Island of Tabor, Missile Silo, and Matka Miest. Each map has it's own distinct feel providing the player with numerous points of interest, corners to cover, and dangers. The map you choose to raid has a strong influence on the gear and weapons you decide to bring and risk losing.
Looting
You'll find many different weapons, attachments, ammo upgrades and more scattered throughout the maps allowing the player to fortify themselves and increase their odds of success in their raids.
Upgrade Your Arsenal
Various vendors specialize in different facets of Ghost of Tabor. Some allow you to upgrade your equipment and guns, while others give you safehouse resources or healing items. This is a necessity when it comes to winning more raids.
Loading into Ghosts of Tabor
When you first boot up Ghosts of Tabor, you'll be placed into your Safehouse where you can see all your current inventory including weapons, ammo, armor, safehouse resources, healing resources, and more. When you're ready to jump into a raid, you'll pick all the gear from your safehouse you'd like to bring into the map of your choosing. Be careful though, because if you die then all the loot you came in with including anything you found will be lost for good.
What is a Good Gun Stock for Ghosts of Tabor?
In Ghosts of Tabor, the physical requirements of the player are very high. In order to play this game successfully you'll need to be able to physically perform the following actions:
- Heal
- Use consumables to curb hunger & thirst
- Craft Ammo
- Add attachments to your weapons
- Equip armor, NVG's, backpacks, etc.
- Loot items in mid-raid
With all the above physical requirements in mind, this makes picking the right gunstock very important. With any Olen VR gunstock, you'll be able to successfully perform any of the above tasks with no issues.
The Asset by Olen VR
The most recommended VR Gun Stock for Ghosts of Tabor is the Olen VR Asset; with it's lightweight frame, slip-grip style controller mounting system, and optional bungee sling attached you'll never be over encumbered. This Quest 3 VR gunstock is compatible with major virtual reality headsets including the Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, and the Valve Index.
Gunstock Compatibility with 2-Handed Guns
The Meta Quest 3 Slip Grips are what the player will insert their Quest 3 controllers into to artificially attach their hands to the stock. The front portion of the slip grips are wide enough to slide your controllers into easily and quickly. Ghosts of Tabor has a built in physical gunstock calibrator, but with the Asset you will never need to rely on this feature as you can use any 2-handed gun and line up your sights perfectly.
Instead of attaching your Quest 2 or Quest 3 controllers to your stock then grabbing the in-game gun, the Asset allows for a whole new motion. The Asset Meta Quest 3 gun stock lets you grab your in-game gun first, then bring your controller to your off-hand slip grip. This new feature ensures the Asset will work with any 2-handed gun with perfect alignment every time.
How to Use Pistols and Sidearms
With almost every Meta Quest 3 VR gun stock, we recommend using a gunstock sling. When utilizing a sling properly, the player will be able to quickly let go of their gunstock and grab their sidearm. The gunstock itself will hang to the side or on the chest of the player so when they're ready to switch back to their 2-handed gun, the Asset gunstock is at the ready.
How to Use Consumable Items
The two main healing items in Ghosts of Tabor are the bandages and the NRS. The NRS is similar to a syringe where the player can aim the syringe at their wrist and instantly increase health. This consumable only requires one hand to fully be removed from the gunstock, but the bandages require much more physical player motion.
With bandages, the player must wrap the bandage around their forearm about 10 times in order to be consumed. It is recommended to have both hands free from the players gun stock in order to avoid bumping your controller or body into the physical gunstock. With the slip grip controller system of the Asset Meta Quest 3 gunstock, along with a bungee sling, the player can easily drop the stock, bandage their arm, then slip their Meta Quest 3 controllers back into place.
The Asset is also modular so you'll be able to add and remove specific parts from your stock and upgrade to build a stock to match your specific playstyle.
The SPINE by Olen VR
With it's gritty and unique aesthetics and immersive magnet mounting system, the SPINE Meta Quest 3 gun stock is another fantastic choice to bring into your next Ghosts of Tabor raid.
Using Guns with the SPINE
Just like the Asset, the SPINE gunstock compatible with the Meta Quest 3 allows the user to use any 2-handed gun easily but with an added level of immersion. The SPINE uses a top-mounted magnetic controller mount system, which mimics the motions of real 2-handed guns better than any other gunstock on the market. To grab an in-game weapon, the player can grab the gun in virtual space then mount their controller to the SPINE gunstock via the magnets to the metal underside of the stock body.
Sidearms and Swapping Guns
Included with the SPINE Meta Quest 3 gun stock is a low-profile bungee sling which allows the player to hang their gunstock on their body like a satchel whenever they want their controllers fully freed. When the player is ready to use a sidearm you simply disconnect both Meta Quest 3 controller mounts from the stock. If a player needs to swap to a different 2-handed gun from their chest or on a downed enemy, disconnect just your offhand and keep your trigger hand connected to the SPINE. You can even disconnect both but it's not entirely necessary.
Healing, Eating, and Looting
Utilizing a sling is vital with the SPINE to successfully heal your character, eat to avoid hunger pains, and loot new gear in a raid. Though the bungee sling is included with the SPINE, there are more robust and adjustable vr gunstock sling options you can attach to your gun stock to allow you to perform the above actions. Whenever you need to heal yourself, eat a specific piece of food, or loot gear or weapons, it's always recommended to dismount both your controllers; though sometimes you can do these actions with only one hand.
If you play Ghosts of Tabor and are in the market for a Meta Quest 3 Gun Stock, then the Asset VR gunstock or the SPINE Meta Quest 3 gun stock will be the most ideal option.
