How to Reset Oculus Quest 2 VR Headset

The Oculus Quest 2 is a standalone virtual reality headset grounded on the Android 10 operating system. While it works easily utmost of the time, you might run into glitches, or the headset itself might indurate. This happens more constantly if you’re downloading content from the App Lab to try out games that aren’t completely released yet.

How to Perform Quest 2 Soft Reset

If your headset is experiencing small problems like glitching or games crashing, you definitely shouldn't resort to an immediate hard reset. Try performing a soft reset instead. To do this, just take the following steps:


First Step:

  1. Place the headset on your head, and when doing so press & hold the power button located on the right side of the device until the 'power off' screen is the only thing visible.

  2. Choose the Restart option

This will reboot the headset and can clear up numerous minor bugs. Still, if you cannot renew your headset or it’s frozen, another option is still present.

  1. You'll need to press and hold the power button, located on the side of the headset, for about 10 seconds.

  2. After about 30 seconds of waiting, press & hold the power button again and the headset should power on

The two methods listed above are what is referred to as a 'soft reset'

How to Perform Quest 2 Factory Reset

Still, you might need to plant reset your Oculus Quest 2 headset, If performing a soft reset does n’t fix the problem. This returns it to the original settings; in other words, the same state it was in when you took it out of the box. All downloaded games, saved data, and regard information will be removed.

How to Factory Reset Quest 2 Via App

However, you can fluently perform an original factory reset through the mobile app but note that if your headset is glitching, this might not work, If your Oculus shows up as a listed device.

  1. Tap the Oculus application.

  2. Hit Menu > Devices.

  3. You may have multiple Meta devices on your app, select your desired device to reset and hit Advanced Settings.

  4. Press Factory Reset.

  5. There will be a warning notification that appears on your scree, letting you know Oculus app will remove all info that was previously saved on your headset. If you're good to go, just tap Reset.

How to Factory Reset Quest 2 Using Your Headset

Still, you can still perform the reset through your headset, if your Quest can’t connect to the app or you’re unfit to use your phone for another reason.


A note about the screenshots below there's no way to take screenshots from the Oculus Quest 2 while on the charge screen. These screenshots are from Oculus and represent what the screen will look like, but it may be different when you do this yourself.

  1. Power off your Quest 2 headset.

  2. Press down and hold the power off and volume down buttons for a couple seconds until you see a boot menu screen display.

  3. The menu can be navigated using the previous volume up/down buttons used on the underside of your headset. The power button is used to confirm your selection. After testing out things, the options are as follows:

  • Factory reset

  • Device info

  • Power off

  • Sideload update

  • Boot device

Choose the Factory reset and press down on the power button.


After this, the plant reset will do. Once it completes, it'll bobble up, and you can perform the setupagain – hopefully without glitches this time – or fix the Quest 2 for trade.


That’s all there's to resetting the Quest 2. still, consider reaching Oculus support, If these repairs still don’t correct your issues. The problem might lie in the tackle, and you may need to have your Quest repaired.
